first off, you should check their website...or even wikipedia...rather than getting uneducated people claiming to be hair stylists answering you here. those websites will probably be more informative.





that being said, yes, in a way, it does. There is a hormone called DHT that builds up on the scalp that can contribute to baldness. This DHT can cover the follicle and in some cases actually harden over it making it impossible for the hair to grow. Nioxin cleanser is specifically formulated to break down buildup of DHT.





DHT is not the ONLY cause of baldness. If it is, in fact, what's causing the baldness then Nioxin should work to help regrow hair. If the hair loss is caused by some other factor then this treatment wouldn't work.Nioxin shampoo question??? please help!!!!?
I doubt it. It's a good quality product, but removing residue from inside the follicle? I don't know that something like that would be desirable, let alone safe (or possible!)





Does it really claim to do that on the packaging?? It just strips off the outer layer of oils, dirt, and chemical buildup, like any clairifying shampoo.
Well there is no opening in the follicle for residue to get in, where did you get that idea? It doesn't get clogged.

It has nothing to do with ';cleaning';. Although Nioxin is a good scalp cleanser it has chemicals that help the hair at the shaft stimulate growth. Make sure you are using the scalp therapy with the shampoo and conditioner. I think that is the true key to success with this product.

Nioxin makes hair grow so yes I would think that it would help with male pattern baldness. It also cleans the scalp because there the shampoo is supposed to stay in the hair a few minutes before washing it out and using the conditioner

If you want an quick way to make your hair look thicker, get translucent highlights. VO5 is really good, so is Herbal Essence and Finesse. Also, hair falling out can be prevented sometimes if you don't comb tour hair right after washing it. Combing it right away can make hair fall out faster... You should wait a little bit until it is damp, not wet. I think it's really a good product. A couple of years ago, my hair suddenly began thinning. I began using the Nioxin, and it was only a matter of time before my hair began coming back in more thick. The very best product to stimulate new hair growth and repair damage hair is aromatherapy scalp formulas made with essential oils. Olive oil is too heavy for fragile falling hair. Before you try anything you should see a dermatologist to determine why your hair is falling out. Do you have an chemicals on your hair, such as color?


I wouldn't use olive oil, and I would stop using vinegar because it's drying to the hair. There is a treatment, Aphogee, that really does work to stop breakage or hair falling out. It's worth a try, but again, you should see a physician.
do NOT use olive oil, this will probably clog up the hair roots and cause even more damage... Shampoo is supposed to get rid of dirt and oil, not add more... oil only adds a healthy sheen which is not your main priority :P





I looked at the Nioxin website, they were very dodgy and careful in saying it makes hair LOOK healthy and stronger, but it might not actually do so.


My advice is to go see a profressional who will advice you on better products... its worth the money. My dad does this... let me go see his shampoo...

Nioxin is a great product. It will help to build the hair on the shaft, creating thickness. It will also promote a healthy scalp for hair growth, however it doesn't make hair grow...like Rogain. I would try Nioxin system 2:

However, if you just want to use one product, I would suggest the Nioxin Scalp Treatment for Normal Hair. It is a spray-on product. You spray it on the ';problem areas'; and it stimulates blood flow to the area. Blood flow stimulates hair growth. The spray will turn your skin pink after a few minutes, but that's just the blood flowing. So, I like to use it at night before I go to bed so I don't go out with red spots on my head.

As far as using the shampoo, therapy, and treatment (the 3 in one treatment),,,save your money phaps and just use the shampoo or the conditioner/therapy too...as all three of them have the same ingredients!!! it might be a sales technique urging you to use all three,,,and trust me this is not a cheap product.....But i do believe this shampoo alone works,,,worked a bit on my roomate....i used it for a while,,,but had to stop because my scalp developed an allergy to some ingredient in it,,,and i had to discontinue it...But i would say this is a good shampoo with a moderate amt. of science to back it up.....(and i can understand why this company is not trying to do clinical trials or anything of that sort...if you wanna know all that jargon, send me an email..)


IF you're one of those hairy mammoths with zilch/zerrro hair on their head and all of it on your body n face,,,i.e. a high dht mongrel,,,this shampoo couldnt possibly make a difference,,,,u might need propecia or something stronger...( From my personal observations,,,i have seen this work better on women and a few guys with just mild hair loss). Yes! I use the Nioxin follicle booster leave-in conditioner and it works great, I'm telling you. Nioxin is the best shampoo if you want thicker hair and more of a hairline. The first time I've used it, it worked GREAT.

I have been taking hair supplements for the past 3 years and here is what I have found.


GNC makes a tablet called ';Ultra Nourishair'; in formulas for men and women, the pills are taken daily, 2 pills a day. They are HUGE and very hard to swallow, if you have any trouble at all with large tablets, then I wouldn't recommend these. The 2 pills also contain only 1200 micrograms total of Biotin, which is the main supplement needed for hair to grow faster and stronger. You should try to get a minimum of 2500 micrograms of Biotin daily to improve hair's rate of growth and its condition. Even though I took these GNC pills for 4 months, I wouldn't recommend them because they are not the most high quality pills available.

I am a trained nutraceutical cosmetologist. I have used NIOXIN on clients and about 8% show improvement; however, there must be continued use and many have allergic reaction or increased thinning at first. I personally do not use it because of the inclusion of the chemicals. Propecia is a very fast approach for hair growth, although it is very chemically laden as well. But, it is superior to NIOXIN. Beauty 4 Ashes ADP products and Rogaine Women may also help. Beauty 4 Ashes is very good and contains no chemicals. Many women see results in 4 weeks of use. Yes it is only available at salons. If you find it at a grocery store, drug store, online etc don't buy it because it's been diverted (which means it has been black marketed.) I've never used that brand of shampoo, however check the label. Was it made in China?? If so... throw it out IMMEDIATELY!!!
I used the entire Nioxin regimen for six months and observed no more hair loss than usual. Unfortunately, the treatments did not promote hair growth either.





Should you be experiencing a noticeable hair loss, and from the roots, I suggest you consult a physician. Your problem could be a hormonal unbalance: hormones run amuk!

No, it will not do anything. Hair isn't alive and it doesn't grow. Hair is an accumulation of a protein called keratin inside the follicle. As it builds up on the bottom it is pushed out the top, creating ';hair growth';. i started using the nioxin follicle booster, and i started to notice less hair falling out in the area that I used it. The hair started to grow back, but it took me about a month to see the results. I was using it along the forehead section of my hairline. The product is expensive for the amount you actually get, and also I used it in one area to see if there was any change before I started using it in larger areas.





I use the shampoo and conditioner as well, and will add the scalp treatment to the mix as they suggested. 4 products in all. I am a level 2, but it was suggested that I go to a level 4 for colored hair for all the benefits of the product. I also use all 3 everyday, which it is needed, as you need to massage your scalp to increase the blood-flow. The follicle treatment is to be applied morning and night, which I did religiously. I am not a severe case, but have noticed thinning,





It will take 6 months to a year to see the true result I am told.

I tried it after I had my thyroid removed. It did not work. But then I had my thyroid removed and there may not be anything that prevents hair loss from that. To this day it periotically falls out.





It is exspensive. If you do spend the money on it use it as directed.Nioxin Shampoo?
My husband thinks it has helped him a little bit, but not much.





I enjoy using it as it smells pepperminty and makes your scalp tingle (especially the conditioner).

I have used it and got no results. HOwever taking the vitamin Biotin, will help. It helps with your nails too. But as soon as you sotp taking it the effects stop too.

This problem makes my hair very dull and greasy and dry. I know the problem is not from my hard water because i have washed my hair in clean water before. But i do know it is the way i wash it because when it is washed at the salon it turns out very shinny and pretty. It is probably not the shampoo because i have tried alll kinds of shampoos that people recommend. If the shampoo at the salon works, find out what they are using on your hair and get some of it too use at home. Also, try using less shampoo -- you can always add more but once you get too much in your hair it is a bear to get out. I, too have really thick hair, and when I wore it long I had the same problem. In a pinch, lemon juice will remove the shampoo. A flat beer will do the same thing.





Talk to your stylist about getting your hair thinned. That will help as well.





Avoid shampoos and conditioners with wax in them. Read labels carefully. A daily claryfying shampoo and conditioner will most likely work the best for you. Avoid 2 in 1 combinations (shampoo and conditioner in on product), they almost always have wax in them and will be hard to rinse out. I know it's hard with winter coming, but try rinsing in cold or cool water, sometimes that works well, but not always.





Sounds like you may simply be using too much shampoo. Try starting with an amount about the size of a quarter. If that doesn't work, adjust it.





I've been through this myself, and been through it with my daughter. Don't give up, keep trying. But start with what your stylist tells you and go from there.

It's called Herbensense (sp) It's really good for your hair and it smells good also.
try and get a hair cut. Or use Dove.
It is your water. You must have hard water, which makes it hard to wash out the shampoo out of your hair. Check your water, and if it is as I suspect it to be the water. You can get a system to resolve your problem. Your local hardware stores can help you with that.
get someone else to wash then tell them to look for any shampoo in your hair

My mom has become very allergic to my cat, and we were wondering whether this helped anyone else.


My cat is not a long hair, but we have carpets and the fur probably has accumulated quite a bit contributing to the problem. We had the carpets cleaned and she still has a rash. 'Out! allergy no Rinse cat and kitten shampoo': does it help?
I've never tried that particular brand, but daily brushing would probably be more effective than any shampoo. I'd suggest calling your vet; calls are free and it would probably take less than 5 minutes. Ask if the brand is any good, and if the vet isn't familiar with it read the ingredients so you know it's safe. Your vet might be able to recommend something better.





My roommate is allergic. If I brush my cat for about 15 minutes daily, she doesn't have any problems... But if I go out of town and the cat doesn't get brushed for a few days, her allergies get really bad. Plus, cats love to be brushed so it's a fun way to bond.





Other things that help are daily dusting and vacuuming (remember: dust first, so the dust/fur falls to the floor, then vacuum everything up). Vacuum the sofa, too. Remember to wipe down the random places your kitty likes to play, like the windowsill. Washing curtains will also help.





I'm not sure how your home is set up, but maybe you could get an adjustable ';baby gate'; to keep the cat from going upstairs to your mom's bedroom? Then if it goes upstairs, it's kept (and carried) into your room, not snoozing in front of her door.

I haven't tried Out!, but I use Allerpet which I think is a similar product, and it does help. I know when I haven't given my cat a rinse as my allergies act up a bit more.





The two most important things to do are keep the cat out of her bedroom and vacuum the house frequently. Making the bedroom a cat-free zone gives her a place to go for her system to recover from the attack of the allergens. Vacuuming, along with using a cat rinse, helps to reduce the level of allergens in the house.





The attached link lists some other things you can do. Your mom may want to consider trying Claritin or Allegra to help with her allergy symptoms too.

I never tried that but a product called Nature's Miracle works great for me. You just dampen the fur with it about once a week, can also be used on linens and furniture..

i dont like it at all. try ';washing'; your hair with powder. i dont think it will leave it very shiny. and it doesnt work all that well, i only tried it once and then threw it away trust me it doesnt work with longhaired goldens!
It's good if you need to wash the dogand don't feel like getting wet or dealing with drying.





And it's better than washing the dog everyday which can lead to skin irratation.

What is the best dry or no rinse shampoo?

i am going on a mission trip in a few weeks and won't have running water or electricity where i'm staying. my hair gets really greasy if i don't wash it at least every other day, and since showering is not an option, i need to use a dry or no rinse shampoo. i have been reading reviews and really can't find one that is far superior to the others. also, i don't want to go paying like 20 or 30 dollars for like a 3 or 4 ounce can because i don't have that kind of money right now.What is the best dry or no rinse shampoo?

In my own opinion, it leaves your hair really greasy.
The spray-on or powder, no-rinse shampoos have been around for a LONG time.


The talc (which is what it basically is) absorbs the oils from your hair, later you brush your hair vigorously to get it out.


Well... it does not come out completely so your hair is actually dirtier than before and it sheds from your hair until you really can wash it out.


I suggest you bring some small shampoos with you and forget the no-rinse.


It's really not worth it.


Besides, you are going camping... you don't need to be dolled up to chop wood and hike and fish.


Pull your hair back, throw on a cap and forget about it.

If you can't get hold of this and you get really desperate - sprinkle some talc in your hair and brush it out again - it removes all the grease from your hair.

If you're in the UK, try Boots - they do dry shampoo that you spray on to your head/hair. It's in a green aerosol can but I can't remember the name.
